Sat 6th February ONE WAY STREET THE RIBBLE VALLEY JAZZ BAND
One Way Street is a mainstream jazz band formed early last year following jamming sessions held at the Ribble Valley Jazz Club in Clitheroe. These local musicians have performed at the Clitheroe Grand.
The current band line up has Brian Taylor playing Tenor, Alto and Soprano Saxophone and Flute, Trumpet, Flugelhorn and Harmonica, Dave Turner on Bass, Mike Benson looks after the Drums and Mick Mohon the Piano.
We can expect mainstream jazz from the likes of Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael as well as some Latin music.

Most of you will know that Simon is famous for leading ghost walks in many towns in the north west. By night as darkness descends, Simon dons his top hat and black caps and takes to the streets of these mysterious northern locations ... in search of ghosts, myths and legends.
Tonight at Whalley Village Hall he will tell stories - but not just any stories. These stories are the kind that send shivers down the spine and have you checking under the bed before you get in it.

The band proved so popular when they performed here in July last year that we asked them back.
Malkin perform with: Guitars, Fiddle, Bouzouki, Banjo, Mandolin, Flute, Whistles, Bodhran and Uillean pipes.
They play traditional and contemporary folk music with songs from a wide variety of sources and influences. Material is mostly English and Celtic in origin, both accompanied and unaccompanied, with some original compositions.
They specialise in three-part harmonies and interesting instrumental accompaniments, but also play lively jigs and reels and beautiful slow airs.

The Band is made up of four talented musicians playing beautiful and invigorating acoustic music from various traditions around the world.
Experienced old-hands Pete Challoner and Tim Dalling (from the Old Rope String Band, one of the most popular acts ever to perform here) have joined forces with experienced old-time musicians Jock Tyldesley and Vera van Heeringen. Between them, they sing, dance and play fiddles, guitar, piano accordion, mandolin and anything else that comes to hand.
People just laugh at them! They have been known to ask, "Is it folk music?" or "Is it cabaret?" or even, "Are they ploughing the lonely furrow of cutting-edge music hall?"
The show delights all the senses, except, perhaps, smell. Expect exuberant theatrics, boundless energy and gorgeous music, all executed with kindness. What could possibly go wrong?

Performing at major venues and festivals including The Barbican and The Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, SolFest, Manchester Jazz Fest, Cambridge Summer Music, Arts Centres, Concert Halls from Cornwall to Inverness and, of course, Whalley (and other) Village Halls, the group go from strength to strength, delighting audiences wherever they appear.

Maggie lives in an isolated farmhouse in the north of England with her father Andrew, a celebrated scientist. They lead a life that is as conventional as it is idyllic.
Into this blissful, humdrum picture bursts Cath, a childhood friend of Maggie's, away for ten years but now back to tell Maggie something she should have learned a long time ago.
By the end of the night nothing is left of the picture-box idyll so carefully constructed by Andrew and taken for granted by Maggie.
The play contains adult language and is therefore probably not suitable for children under 16.
